Welcome to Fogponics.com! Fogponics is a trademarked line of products manufactured by
Nebula West Enterprises that all use a dry fog technology as the means for growing things.
Fogponics is also the best descriptive we could come up with for this revolutionary growing
method created by new technology through NASA research in an effort to solve the issues of
growing food in space.
Hydroponics was the beginning of this search for ways to grow food without soil, then came
Aeroponics as a better solution and now there is "Fogponics".
The dry fog utilized in our products is created by an electronic ultrasonic device that actually
shatters water molecules with vibration from sound waves. The result is water particles
reduced in size down to 3 - 5 microns similar to fog and clouds. This form of water feels dry to
the touch and is very rich with oxygen thus being able to breathe in fog whereas you can not
breathe in a more solid form of water. Apply this to a root zone and you have the highest
concentration of oxygen rich, nutrient laden solution you can get while using less water and
nutrient and eliminating the need for any medium.
Fog technology has been used in grow rooms for some time and has proven itself to be
incredibly effective as well as problematic and rather expensive in its infancy. There are plenty
of examples of its success as a growing method and also plenty of failures or inconveniences of
its use as well.
One of the issues with this blossoming methodology is multiple components and the
cleaning/maintenance of these components as well as the inconvenience of their space
requirements. Most individuals do not have the room for three or four component systems
and are not interested in something that is a pain to clean and maintain. Another problem is
fog failure from insufficient water levels. All of these issues are addressed with a new product,
the Fogponics Dominaero, manufactured by Nebula West Enterprises.
The Dominaero is designed as a propagation unit and with the soon to be available optional
decks, will also be a start to finish growing unit. Depending on the type of plants you are
growing, this system can be used as is, to full harvest. This is a single component system
measuring in at less than 2' by 4' and only 12 inches high that utilizes spray jets for back up in
case of fog failure and buoys to avoid fog failure in the first place. The ceramic discs used in the
ultrasonic device to create the fog are Teflon coated for easy cleaning and resistance to
nutrient build up as well as water mineral deposits. The pump used to operate the two spray
jets is also used to drain the unit for weekly nutrient change and cleaning. The spray jets are
only necessary for faster root production with cuttings and as a backup in case of fog failure.
Once roots appear, the spray jets are almost obsolete next to the results pure fog can provide
by allowing each root to develop micro roots as fine as hair. This creates up to 1500% more
surface area for the plant to absorb nutrient solution. The abundance of oxygen in fog along
with its ability to penetrate without the surface tension of a film of water eliminates root decay
thus allowing the plant accelerated growth without having to replace root structure. We
recommend disconnecting the spray jets as soon as there are roots to enable this accelerated
growth.
There is still much to learn and experiment with in this direction of soilless growing and we
invite everyone to grow with us. Changes in personal and global food production may lie in the
future of fog, especially where soil is contaminated or not present at all. Organic farming
without any medium is now a reality with absolute control of what a plant absorbs giving the
individual control over what is in their food.
Our goal is to create new growing products for the individual's use as well as systems for
community and commercial use that liberate space and soil constraints. The next step for us is
to also remove power constraints from the equation thus making it possible to grow anything
just about anywhere with minimal resources. Many places in the world have almost enough
resource to grow abundant food if they could just solve the one or two missing ingredients
without bankrupting themselves. Other situations require a great deal more time to rebuild a
damaged ecosystem than the immediate need can allow. Climate changes throughout the
world caused by normal cyclic patterns, unusual natural events as well as human impact that
directly affect food production can be mitigated by adopting alternative growing methods.
Africa is an example of where we believe Fogponics can be applied along with new solar LED
technology to solve some serious problems with food production. Soil is contaminated from
petroleum/oil drilling and rendered almost useless as a growing medium in some areas. There
is water although not always abundant, but it is there in quantities sufficient for fog methods
and could be increased with a little management. There is plenty of sun and wind to assist, if
not provide, low level energy requirements for alternative soilless growing methods. We are
determined to pursue this line of thinking through our research and development of Fogponics
as a methodology as well as our product line.
Plants are essential to all forms of life on this planet and growing with fog may be the future of
sustainable, clean, soilless plant production on this earth. Once again, our intentions for
continued development of space travel may be an answer to our needs here on earth. It seems
the higher we reach the more we bring home.
